Our Village, Our World

  Summer Day Camp

 cultural curiosity     creativity     community

"Our Village, Our World” Summer Day Camp in Berkeley, CA offers a fun and innovative multicultural experience for kiddos ages 3-6. Outdoor Activities, Art, Spanish and Japanese, STEAM, Community Adventures, and much more!

Camp Registration Now Open!

Our goal is to nurture little global explorers as we discover new destinations around our community
and our world!

Special Activities

As we travel around the alphabet and the globe, kids will be creating individual and community art projects inspired by our weekly destinations. We will have indoor creation stations and an outdoor art space where kids will have the opportunity to let their creative spirits soar!  Most projects will be created with sustainable. found, and recycled materials to foster eco-awareness.  By being exposed to different world arts and cultures, children develop curiosity and awareness for different cultures while celebrating diversity.

Weekly activities get kids curious and excited about Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.  With projects such as building robots with recycled materials, designing wood block structures, launching rocket balloons, and creating twirling twig mobiles, kids will build a love for learning about how their world works.

Outdoor Adventures

Each day, little ones will enjoy and have fun at a beautiful multi-purpose park just one block away! While enjoying the outdoors, we will play games, do yoga, have picnics, explore nature, and make art. In addition, each week we will explore nearby destinations such as the farmers market, a bakery, a theater and much more!

Twice a week music classes will take kids on a musical adventure! In folk songs with Grandpa Clyde kids will sing, dance, and act out folk songs about animals, nature, vehicles, family, friends, and being silly. Children start to understand tempo and rhythm using instruments and noisemakers. In Jump! with Jaime, kids will sing-a-long, jump, dance, and move as Jaime rocks classic kids' songs and funky originals to lead them on a magical, interactive music exploration.

Children will be exposed to Spanish and some Japanese throughout the day as words will be incorporated into our daily activities, projects, and games. Teaching young children words on other languages is another way to introduce them to different cultures. Beginners will learn basic words and more advanced speakers will have the opportunity to practice while having fun.

Yoga & Mindfulness

Our community opening circle is a time to gather together to begin each day. This "mindful moment" will support us to check in with feelings and friends and reminds us to engage in compassion. Yoga encourages kids to move as they learn new poses and practice calm breathing while stretching their bodies and creative spirits. When children learn techniques for relaxation and inner fulfillment, they can better navigate the world around them.

As part of our travels, kids will learn recipes and make simple foods inspired by our global destination.  Each Tuesday we will visit the Berkeley Farmer’s market just two blocks away, to learn about locally sourced food and talk to the folks who grow it!

Camp Information

What to Wear

Each camper should come to camp wearing comfortable clothing, a sun hat, a sweater or jacket and closed-toed shoes or sandals (no flip-flops). Please pack a second set of clothes and shoes to keep in your child’s cubby and label all clothing especially jackets, sweaters and hats. While we do maintain a Lost and Found, we are not responsible for any lost items.

Each camper should come to camp with a healthy packed lunch and water bottle. Please label each of these items with your child's name. The Camp will provide a light mid-morning snack at our park picnic time each day. If your child has allergies or restrictions be sure to bring this up with your camp coordinator prior to your child's start date.

Peanut-Free Environment

Due to the life-threatening risk of peanuts and peanut -containing products, we ask that parents do not send these foods with children attending camp at The Rec Room. The play space is a peanut-free environment.

We do have a designated cozy corner for all day campers who may need a rest in the afternoon. Feel free to pack 1-2 items such as a favorite stuffed animal, book or blanket that would comfort your child while they rest.

Toilet Learning

We take a lot of bathroom breaks during the day! We do require that children attending camp be toilet trained and understand that accidents do happen. We ask that each child keep a change of clothes in their cubby so we can help clean up if an accident should occur.

Parent Participation

Children must be escorted to and from camps on the first day and signed in and out at the front desk. Parents/caregivers are welcome to stay

during the initial 15 minutes of “free play” before we gather for opening community circle time.

Pick-up and Drop-off

Children must be signed in and out by persons named in advance on the authorization form in your

enrollment packet. There is a 5 minute loading zone space directly in front of The Rec Room to help with pick-up and drop-off and all others are 2 hour free parking spaces.

Flexible Hours/Daily Drop-in option

We offer supervised flexible hours for early drop-off from 8:30 am to 9:00 am. You must let the camp coordinator know in advance if you would like your child to attend in our early drop-off time. In the event you would like to drop-in the day of camp, please call first to see if space is available. Separate rates apply for flexible hours and drop in day campers.

Children with Special Needs

The Rec Room Summer Day Camp welcomes children with special needs. We have a 1:6 staff to child ratio and our priority to provide all children a safe place to play and learn. We are open to enrolling any child on a trial basis. At The Rec Room’s sole discretion, we may allow parents to provide, at their own cost, an aide for a child with special needs. Please provide full disclosure of your child’s special needs on your medical release form so that we may assess our ability to support you and your child.

Our priority is to provide a safe and fun environment for all campers. We keep a well stocked first aid kit on the premises and carry it with us for all outings. For campers with allergies or other medical conditions, please fill out all relevant information in your enrollment packet and let your camp coordinator know any special concerns or care your child may need before camp begins. All staff are trained in CPR and first aid and are prepared to help your child in the event of an emergency. In the event of any injury or illness, you will be notified immediately and in the event of an emergency, 911 will be called immediately.

The Rec Room camps take place in a classroom setting, and like preschools and schools, children attending camps should be fully vaccinated. Please speak with the camp director, Annie Frey if your child has a medical or personal belief exemption.

Please visit our website to register your child’s camp dates and pay fees. All camp enrollments are confirmed by email. Attached to the email you will find an emergency contact/medical release waiver to complete and return prior to the start of your child’s camp day. No child will be admitted to camp without completed paperwork.

Fees & Refunds
Our camp offers weekly rates and based upon availability, daily drop-in rates. Camp fees are due at time of enrollment. Prepaid fee is fully refundable up to 14 days before your child’s start date. Within 14 days of start date, 50% of prepaid fee is refundable. No refunds are given after camp begins. In the event camp is not well suited for your child, The Rec Room reserves the right to remove any child from camp for any reason with a full refund. Please contact our Camp Director to discuss your child’s needs prior to enrollment.

No refunds or make-ups are given for “no-shows” or absences. If you child misses a day, a phone call is appreciated. Regular attendance is encouraged as some projects may span more than one day of camp.

Late Pick-up

We expect parents/caregivers to pick up children promptly at the end of the camp day. A 5 minutes grace period will be allowed at no extra charge. After that we ask that you call us and a charge of $10 per 5 minutes you are late to pick up your child will apply.

Contacting Us

Should you have any questions or concerns prior to camp or throughout the day, please don’t hesitate

to reach out. Our priority is the safety and enjoyment of each child!
